What is a Paper Jogger?
November 20, 2024A paper jogging machine aligns, stacks, and organizes sheets of paper for further processing or handling. The name “jogger” is derived from the action of “jogging,” which is aligning or shaking papers or materials in order to make even and neat stacks. As a jogger aligns paper, it reduces static electricity and takes out any air pockets or misaligned edges that form from printing, cutting, or collating.
Paper joggers are easy to operate, and involve four steps:
1. Turn on the Jogger: The first step to using the machine is placing the paper jogger on a stable surface and plugging it in. Look for the power switch, which is on the side, front, or back of the device, and turn it on. The jogger will begin to vibrate.
2. Load the Paper Stack: Hold your stack of paper firmly, and load it in the jogger tray. Align the stack with the jogger’s edges so there will be even jogging. Most machines can handle a variety of paper sizes. Make sure to check the jogger’s specifications if you have unusually sized sheets.
3. Align the Paper: The vibrating action will help straighten the stack, shake out loose documents, and knock out static. Allow the jogger to run for 10 to 15 seconds, or until the paper is neatly aligned.
4. Use the Organized Stack: After the jogging process is finished, turn off the jogger. Now the paper is flush, and can be used for binding or packaging. Joggers are handy products since they save time by reducing the risks of jams and misfeeds in machines like copiers, printers, or paper folders.
Our Martin Yale 400 Paper Jogger uses vibration to align the edges of up to 500 sheets of paper at a time, while also reducing static electricity. It pairs well with high speed copiers, paper folders, printing presses, cutters, and binding systems, and jogs one ream of 8.5” x 11,” or a half ream of 8.5” x 14” paper.
Industries that Use Paper Joggers
Paper joggers are used in environments where managing massive amounts of documents is routine. Print shops, offices, mailing and fulfillment centers, financial institutions, healthcare facilities, government agencies, and legal industries utilize these tools. For example, print shops and offices use them to prepare stacks of paper for printing, binding, or cutting tasks.
Mailing, copy, and fulfillment centers need joggers for assembling stacks of mail, bills, and promotional materials before putting them through inserting and folding machines. Banks and financial institutions depend on these products for organizing checks, forms, and transaction documents that are typically a part of batch processing or record-keeping.
Hospitals and medical centers require joggers to arrange patient files and paperwork for filing or scanning. Government agencies including tax offices, licensing bureaus, and social services rely on joggers to manage high volumes of forms, applications, and reports. Finally, legal firms employ these devices for aligning and preparing legal briefs, court documents, and other sheets that have to be processed and bound.
Our Recommendation for Print Shops
We recommend our Formax FD 402 TA1 Jogger for print shops and production houses with limited space availability. It has one bin, and can jog up to 940 sheets of 20# paper at once. The tool provides variable vibration speed and air pressure controls to shorten jogging time. The variable speed control can deliver up to 2,500 vibrations per minute. Since the user can adjust the vibration speed, the jogging process can be modified to facilitate different stack sizes.
The variable air pressure control can achieve up to 29,000 revolutions per minute (rpm). This feature lets the user change the intensity of the air flow to accommodate various paper types. The air pressure allows press sheets and digital printouts to be air-dried immediately, and gets rid of static electricity.
Our Recommendation for Offices
We recommend our Lassco Wizer LJ-6 Multi-Bin Table Top Paper Jogger for offices because of its compact design. With dimensions of 27” x 24” x 16,” the device can nicely fit into your workspace. The product operates quietly, so the user can concentrate in their office without distraction.
The jogger has four bins that can simultaneously jog multiple stacks of paper. These bins quickly and efficiently align large volumes of documents, so that your sheets are crisp and orderly for the next steps of your workflow. This piece of office equipment is constructed to make sorting and collating of envelopes and other related paperwork faster.
Our Recommendation for Financial Institutions
We recommend our Syntron Checkmate Single Bin Jogger for banks and other financial institutions. This is because it is created to precisely organize checks for additional processing. The jogger makes up to 3,600 vibrations per minute, and can align paper checks in several seconds.
The device is user-friendly: there is a switch in the back to power on the jogger, and an activation tray under the check “pocket” that you depress to run the machine. With a weight of 10 lbs. and dimensions of 2.5” x 7.31” x 2.75,” it is lightweight and small enough to fit on a bank teller’s desktop.
